Shortcuts in CCText

Posted on April 9th, 2010 in cctext basic | No Comments »

In most cases, shortcuts can empower our work effectively. The whole keyboard operation plays an important role in cctext. In the latest update, CCText adds a new shortcut, the Tab key for table and list.  It may be the time to introduce the cctext shortcuts.

These shortcuts do not include the markups. The markup document has listed all the markups for cctext improved WYSIWYM editor. You can also see them at the sidebar while you are editing any a page too.

The shortcuts are Enter, Tab, and Shift+Tab. They are available while you list multiple lines and/or insert a Table in a page. The below are what they can do in different situation:

List  (Bullet list and Number list)

  • Tab = Indent
  • Shift+Tab = Outdent
  • Enter = Create a new list line

Table

  • Tab = Create a new cell
  • Enter = Create a new row

Just three keys, but they are really helpful while we are working in cctext.

Free plan for small team

Today, we have released a CCText Small Team plan, which is free for the teams having no more than 3 users in cctext.  As always, this free plan users will have the ability to create Unlimited Workspaces in their accounts, and Unlimited Topics/Pages in every workspace.

Give it a try and begin your free travel in cctext:

  1. Visit  create account page,  name your account, and click “Next” button.
  2. Add a few necessary information to your account.
  3. Click the button, “I accept. Create the account for my team.”, at bottom to create your account.
  4. CCText will send an email to you, including your Account URL, screen name, temporary password.
  5. Now, please visit that account URL, sign in.

Now, you are in your account home page. There are a few basic things to do:

  • Add other users. This work begins on the home page too. Click “Add new person” on the side bar and go into the add person page. Here, fill in the necessary information of this person, such as screen name(can not be modified in future), full name and email.

Manage your projects in CCText

Posted on January 8th, 2010 in enterprise 2.0, featured | No Comments »

CCText calls itself an enterprise wiki tool. The point is the advantages on collaboration and usability. This post will share some experiences to manage projects in CCText.

The first thing we do is to go to the Home page, and create a workspace for new project. For example, a new workspace named XMind for our another product, XMind. This is simple. Click “Create Workspace” button and enter into creation page.
Create workspace

After naming the workspace and setting the member permission, we will be on the Main Page of XMind workspace.
Main Page of workspace

Main page is like the dashboard in some other tools.  We will type some basic information about the project, and list Recent Work, Versions, Marketing things, and other important things.
Now, the main page is the menu of this workspace, the framework of this project.

The follow important thing is to create Templates from different tasks. For XMind, we need the Version Template, Meeting Template, Marketing Template, Customer support Template, and etc.
Template is a topic too. What we should do is just create a topic, add some basic info, and click “Mark as Template” button.
Below is the Version Template:
CCText Topic Template
Here, on the topic toolbar, “Mark as Template” button has become “Don’t mark as Template”.
While create a new topic for XMind V3.1.1, we can directly select “Version” in template field.
The next is to prepare other templates.

Now, here, Keep our ideas, feature requests, prototypes, and tasks in one page. It’s a better way for collaboration.

BTW, on the sidebar, there are many useful tools. Maybe, CCText offers us a Transformers.

Something you may not know about CCText — Stay update with our tasks

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in cctext basic, featured | No Comments »

As a collaborative wiki, CCText could help you understand and control all the changes in your account, workspace, even topics faster, better and easier.

Real-time Activities
Every account has a Home page, which is a little like a dashboard of your account. The major content here is the latest activities in this account. They are real-time.
CCText Home Page
The activities are listed by time order. The latest one is on the top. CCText labels the workspace with different colors. Then we can distinguish them and find the important things easily.

Watch your Topic/Task

Click the Star icon(Watch) on any a topic page, CCText will list all changes happened on this topic in “My Watchlist”, where we can easily switch to.

This page is a little bit like the home page. CCText still uses the different color to label workspaces. Every change has the workspace, topic name, modifier, time.

Email Notification
Some time, the watch is not good enough. We can not go to the account in time. But we open our email every day. So, cctext will Send us a message when my watched topics have been modified, Or Send us the daily activity of our watchlist. (One message per day.)

More important, while receiving an email which tell us the changes in our watched topics, we can reply that email to add more information.

These designs are good at helping us to monitor or trace the tasks, project process, and more.

10 Top Web Wiki Applications

Posted on November 8th, 2009 in featured, wiki | No Comments »

Chris Bowler, the editor of web.appstorm.net, recently wrote a Roundup about the web wiki applications, and picked out 10 Top Web Wiki Applications. Besides this, he has done another very important thing: Bring us back to the core of Wiki.

What is Wiki, and Why we need a wiki? Chris answered these two questions clearly at the beginning. Wiki is designed for collaboration, which is also the reason we use it. What coincidence is, CCText is also devoted itself to be The Best Collaborative Wiki.  Basing on this mind, cctext has a friendly look,  and some well-designed features. Maybe this is why CCText was chose as the best one by Web App Storm. (cctext looks extremely promising and I think it can be the leader in this space. – Chris)

In cctext, we can create unlimited numbers of Workspace. In every workspace, there is no number limitation for creating topics, and adding members, no space limitation for uploading  files.  Obviously, Workspace == Wiki. And one CCText account is a group of Wikis.
To raise the efficiency, cctext designs multiple ways for communication and tracing. For example, entering into our workspace, cctext lists all activities in chronological order. And when we are reading a topic, clicking “Watch” button, cctext will lists all change of this topic in our Watchlist page.

Although Chris Bowler evaluated cctext as “A clean design is a great start, but it also has all the features you’d want.”, CCText is still in Beta We are still developing and improving it. . We are learning the advantages of others.  And all features and designs have one prime rule: benefiting to collaboration.

Maybe this is the real wiki, and this is cctext.

P.S.  The original post is 10 Top Web Wiki Applications by Chris Bowler.

Something different in CCText

Posted on November 2nd, 2009 in cctext basic, featured, wiki | No Comments »

CCText has been in public beta for a month. We are very appreciating all enthusiastic people. Your suggestions are quite to the point, which help cctext to improve itself.
Here, let’s list something special in cctext:
1. One plan, but Flexible and Powerful. cctext only offers one plan, $4 per user per month.  No matter how many departments/groups/teams in your company,  do not worry. In our account, we can create unlimited workspaces. In each workspace, we can also create as many Topics as required.  Of course, we can share as many files as we want.

2. Workspace-level Access Control:  CCText account is made up of many workspaces. Every member has four status in a workspace: No Access, Viewer, Collaborator,  and Manager. Viewer can just read all topics and files. Collaborators can creates/modifies topics, upload/download/delete files. Manager has duty to manage members/topics/files in his workspace.

3. Unlimited Resource: Benefit of cloud computing, cctext is able to offer you unlimited resources. There is no amount limitation on workspace. Now any small group, even one person, in company can have their own collaboration area. Topic has no limitation as well. So  A workspace == A Wiki.  Here, knowledge has no boundary. You can also store as many files as you want in cctext.*

4. Improvement on Speed: We often hear complaint about spending much time on writing, editing and saving information. CCText does much work to improve the speed. Now, cctext is the fastest enterprise wiki.

5. Simple Markup editor without remembering markup:  Although cctext designs its own and simple markup editor, we have not to remember any markups while editing topic. In fact, till now, I only remember a few. Most time, I just use the plain text. Because the default theme has been beautiful enough. Sometimes, I have to add format, Toolbar can help me out.

6. Real-time Preview:  This is a very close design in cctext. While you are editing a topic, or a section, there is a preview below the editor. This preview shows the real result simultaneously.

7. Friendly to Google Apps users: If your company is using google apps, you are lucky. You can create your cctext account less than 10 seconds. Without no more work, all members in Google Apps can sign into cctext with Google Apps account directly.

It would be our pleasure to hear your voice about cctext in your eyes.

* File upload limits: 100M per file, 1G per user per month.

Multiple admin and admin announcement
We can choose multiple members as admin in the account. Admin is very important and has many special responsibilities, such as member management, invoice management and etc. So multi-admin could enhance the flexibility for some companies.
Now, admin has another special right, Announcement. Once there are some very important news, announcement will help admin to notice every member.
Member Access Control
Workspace in cctext is a very important access control tool. we create different workspace for every group/small team/subject. And now, to let access control better, every member in a workspace could be “Viewer”, “Collaborator”, or “Manager”.
Shortcut to save and close
With Ctrl-Shift-S (Shift-Cmd-S on Mac), we can quickly save and close current editor.

Some improvements
This update also has some other improvements on usability. For example,

  1. admin can upload a CSV file with certain format to add many members one time.
  2. Google Apps user will have a better experience while signing in.
  3. Discussion (at the bottom of every topic) has a improved design
  4. and more

Of course, we fix many bugs. So with this blog, we also want to express our appreciation to all users. Your suggestions, bug reports and criticism are very important while we updating cctext.

Thank you all again! Hope to hear more from you.

P.S. Now your cost to use cctext is just US$4.00 per user per month.
