For End User

  1. Where can I see my profile? How to edit?

    You can see your profile by click your screen name in the "People" page, or click the "My profile" in the drop-down list of menu.

    The "Contributions" page and section are your latest activities in this account. When others see it, they cannot see the activities in the workspaces which they have no access.

    You can change your first and last name, personal picture, and description (using cctext markup), by clicking "Edit" in your profile. You can also provide a blog/RSS URL. So your latest blog/RSS entries will display in the bottom of your profile.

  2. How do I reset the password and security question?

    The links to "Change password" and "Change security question" are in the sidebar of home page. You can click links to change your password or security question.

  3. What's workspace? How to join a workspace?

    A workspace is just like a wiki site. It's where you store topics and files. Every workspace has managers, collaborators and viewers. To access a workspace, you should have permission.

    In "Workspaces" page, you'll see all workspaces in this account. The light grey text means you cannot access. If you want to access a workspace or become a collaborator, you must contact one of the managers to set permission for you.

  4. How to create a workspace?

    You can create workspace at the home page via clicking the button "Create workspace". Remember that, you can create as many workspaces as you want.

  5. What's a topic? How do I create/delete/rename a topic?

    A topic is just like a wiki page. It has page content, user tags, attachment files and a title. Every time you saved a page, you actually created a new revision and we saved all your editing history.

    A topic can contain rich media files, like pictures (.png/.gif/.jpg), video (.mp3/.aac) and audio (.mp4/.avi/.flv/.mov).

    While you are in a workspace, you can create a new topic via clicking "New Topic" button at the top-right sidebar. Of course, there is no limitation on topic number. You can delete/rename any topic if you want and have "collaborator" permission of the workspace, except the "Main Page" topic.

  6. How to watch (follow) a topic?

    If a topic is important/useful to you, we recommend you Watch(follow) this topic via clicking the Star icon on this topic page.

    Click the "Watch list" link in sidebar on home page, you can all activities of your watched topics. on the watch list page, you can click "Go to my watched topics" link to see the list of your watched topics.

    To unwatch/unfollow any a topic, please click that star icon again.

  7. How to manage the permissions of my workspace?

    There are three kinds of member permissions in workspace: "Viewer", "Collaborator" and "Manager".

    The viewers can view all topics, files and watch topics in the workspace.

    The collaborators not only have all rights of viewers, but also can edit topics, add tags to topics, create new topics and templates, rename/delete the topics and upload/delete files in the workspace.

    The managers not only have all rights of collaborators, but also can add/remove person into the workspace, rename/delete the workspace.

  8. What's Mediabox? What's Quick Look?

    In cctext, you can upload unlimited files into one or more topics.There are multiple ways to show these uploaded files, media box, quick look, and Just a link.

    Just a link is available for any uploaded files. After being uploaded, there will be online a file link on the page.

    Quick look is available for text files, image, audio files(.mp3 and .aac) and some video files. It will show file name, uploader, file size, Details button, Quick Look button, and Download button. Clicking Details button will take us to this file page. Clicking Quick look button will show the content of text file, the control panel of audio and video file.

    Media box is available for audio files(.mp3 and .aac) and some special video files only, such as MP4, MOV. It will show the video window on the page, and you can directly play it.

  9. How to upload a file?

    A file must attach to a topic. So, to upload a file, you should go to a topic page at first. Here are two ways to upload a file to the current topic:

    1) Click "Upload an attachment" link at the bottom of the topic. Then select a file from your computer in the "Upload file" dialog. At last, you can add the description of this file, and set the display mode.

    2) If you are editing a topic or editing a section of a topic, you can click upload icon on the toolbar of editor to callout "Upload file" dialog.

  10. Where can I see all uploaded files in a workspace?

    To see all uploaded files of a workspace, please go into that workspace, and click "All Attachments" in the "Workspace Tools" section of sidebar.

  11. Where's a topic's editing history? How to compare two revisions of a topic?

    Revision management allows you to edit topic without fear of deleting, overwriting anything, or losing a better revision of the topic. To check a topic's history, please go to that topic and click the "History" link at the "Actions" section in the sidebar.

    Here displays a list of all revisions of this topic. You can compare and show the differences, in wiki diff format, between the current version with a specific revision, or between two specific revisions. When comparing, everything that was deleted will be red and struck, everything that's new will be highlighted green.

  12. What's a template? How do I make a template?

    A template contains some special design used by a person or a team or a company, especially the topic's layout. You can design and set your own template in your workspace too. After designing and saving current topic, you can click "Use as template" at "Actions" section in sidebar to set current topic as a template. If do not like this template, please go to this topic, and click "Don't use as a template".

  13. What's a tag? How to use tags?

    Tag is useful tool to let us organize topics.Every topic can have multiple tags. By clicking "add tags"/"edit tags" button on a topic page, you can add new tags or edit the existing tags.

    We can use tag to find topics:

    1) Use search: Type the content, take "cctext" for example, in the search field. If cctext is an existing tag in current workspace, you will see "Tag: cctext" is in the drop-down list.Select it, and cctext will search all topics which have this tag.

    2) Use tag directly: Click "Tags" at the right sidebar, you will see all tags list in current workspace. Clicking any a tag will list all topics which have this tag.

For End Administrator

  1. Where is the data hosted? Is it safe? Is it backed up in case of emergency?

    The data is hosted in Amazon S3 and EC2. It is very safe. And we back it up every night. In case that something emergency happens, we promise you will get full recovery until one day before.

  2. Can we export our data if we don’t want to use cctext anymore? What format is the export in?

    Yes. You can export all data in your account into a human readable format anytime anywhere. This feature is still under development now, and you'll see it very soon.

  3. Are there signup fees? Termination fees? Any hidden fees we should know about?

    You can signup your account and terminate it at any time. It is completely free. We don't charge any other fees except the price to buy UM (user-month, our charge unit).

  4. Do you have special pricing for non-profits, universities, or other groups in need?

    Yes, we offer some special plans for these groups in need. Please contact us to get pricing.

  5. Where can I find our invoices or get a copy of an invoice?

    1) By email: We will send the invoice to the administrator after his payment every time.

    2) In the admin account: Click "Billing History" tab of "Admin Settings". All the invoices ever posted to the account will be listed there.

  6. How to pay to use cctext? What is UM?

    The cctext service is charged by user by month. All active users in your account will be charged on the first day of each month. The administrator of your account can buy UMs with Paypal after sign in. cctext also accepts wire transfer. Please feel free to contact us.

    UM is the charge unit of cctext. UM = 1 user using 1 month.

  7. What is SSL and will it keep my communications absolutely secure?

    SSL is an acronym for “Secure Socket Layer”, a security protocol that provides communications privacy over the Internet. The protocol allows cctext to securely communicate in a way that is designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, or communications forgery. It is the same technology used by banks and e-commerce companies such as Amazon.com to keep your information safe and secure during transactions. SSL keeps your client communications absolutely secure. Find out more about SSL.

  8. How do I enable or disable SSL encryption?

    Click on the “Admin Settings” link on the Home page and you’ll see options to change "Browser connection".

  9. Where could I see my account balance, and billing history?

    Please go to Home page, and then click "Admin Settings" at the right sidebar. At the Admin page, you can not only check "Account Balance" and "Billing History", but also change the general setting and manage people in your account.

  10. How to add people to my account?

    1) Add single person: You can click the "Add new person" link at the top of sidebar or "Add new person" button at the top of "People Management" tab in "Admin Settings" page.

    2) Add many people at once: You can click "Add many people at once" link right beside of "Add new person" button at the "People Management" tab in the "Admin Settings" page. Then you can Upload a CSV file which contains multi users.

  11. How to delete people from my account?

    You can manage people in your account at the "People Management" tab in the "Admin Settings" page.

    You can "suspend" any people in your account instead of deleting them completely. This is designed to protect the information in your account. Once a person is suspended, he will not be able to sign in, and do anything. BTW, you can activate them anytime. Of course, the suspended person will not be charged from next calendar month.

    For example, on Sep.5th 2009, the admin suspend a person, John. Normally, cctext will stop charging John's member fee from Oct, 2009. If the admin activates John on Sep.15th, cctext will not change John September fee, because John has been charged on Sep. 1st.
